Developed but fresh, smooth and well balanced with nothing obviously dominating the palate. Reviews & Awards:
“95/100 Gerald Naef makes delicious chardonnay in Orange, his wines showing the full gamut of chardonnay complexities. Lemon, grapefruit and honey aromas are augmented by nutty and buttery nuances, while fresh acidity keeps the opulent palate focused and tight.” Gourmet Traveller WINE TOP100, Nov 2019
“95/100 Medium to full straw-yellow hue with a savoury, nutty, buttery, slightly oak-dominant bouquet, the palate rich and opulent, generous, fruit-sweet and honeyed, the acidity keeping the wine tight and fresh. Lemon, grapefruit and honey flavours that last and last. A very smart wine in a ‘worked’ style.” Huon Hooke, July 2018
“94/100 … Rich at heart, but long on finish… Plenty of flavour to hang on to here, both fruit and oak derived but sizzling and fresh to close. To: 2023″ 2019 Wine Companion, James Halliday.
“94/100 … Dive in worthy. Grilled cashews, barbecued yellow peach, fleshy white nectarine, figs, plus lashings of vanilla cream and caramel. Bursting with personality, there’s plenty of interest to seduce the senses. The fruit delivers ample of width and breadth yet is balanced beautifully with well-handled acidity. A lick of lemon juice on exit before that nutty goodness presents itself once more on close. Great Chardonnay Gerald! Drink now to ten years.” QWINE, 2018
“92/100 Plenty going on here. Again it feels richer than its alcohol would suggest. We get custard apples, we get pears, we get grapefruit and cedar spice. Nectarine, vanilla, flint and malt too. It feels soft and fluid throughout. It’s a chardonnay for chardonnay lovers; it just has that effortless delivery of complex flavour.” The Winefront, Campbell Mattinson, 2018
“This classy, multi-faceted Patina 2015 Reserve Chardonnay is pale straw and has scents of rock melon and cashews and smooth, ripe golden peach front-palate flavour. Apricot, nashi pear, slate and vanillin oak display on the middle palate and lemony acid at the finish. Ageing: 6 years. Drink wine: Scallops” Newcastle Herald, John Lewis

Description
Colour: Pale straw.
Aroma: Rich varietal chardonnay aromas of peaches and cream, rock melon, cashews and creamy barrel aged lees characters.
Palate: Developed but fresh, smooth and well balanced with nothing obviously dominating the palate. This wine is fine in texture with apricot, white stone fruit and crisp apple flavours balanced by a little creamy lees. A multilayered cool climate style that is generous yet elegant with excellent structure and length.
Winemaking: Fermented and aged on its lees for 11 months in new and one year old French oak barrels. The Reserve Chardonnay represents the best of the vintage with only the best barrels selected for this wine. Alc/Vol 12.2%
Cellaring: Orange Chardonnay generally complexes and improves quite dramatically during the first few years of bottle ageing. The good natural acid levels allow the oak and fruit to integrate resulting in a scrumptious wine to be savoured. It is drinking well now and I expect it become rounder and very scrumptious as it ages up to and well beyond 2025.
