2019 Patina Rosé

Rosé is very exciting from Orange. In the cool climate the red grapes show some very rich red and black berry flavours when harvested.

“… the leafy and berry notes suggesting cabernet family varieties, while the taste is soft and rounded, slightly oily-textured and straightforward in flavour. Good intensity. It finishes cleaner and drier.” Huon Hooke

This style was born back in 2008. After co-fermenting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay destined to become a sparkling wine I just couldn’t get my heart into it. So in 2013 I decided to change direction and added it to the juice of 2013 Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc to re-ferment and make it into a non-vintage rosé. The result was an absolutely delightful Provence style wine that set the direction for my multi-varietal rosé style.

Composed of 44% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, and 2% Cabernet Franc. There was minimal skin contact of the red grapes and the Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed. After clarifying it was fermented at cool temperature until the ferment stopped naturally. 13.5% Alc/Vol.
